How to Be a Health Blogger

April 30, 2014 by: 0

You don’t need to be a certified yoga instructor, accredited personal trainer, or registered dietician to become a health blogger (although none of these would hurt). But you do need to have something to offer your readers that the majority of the population doesn’t have. blogging2

Maybe you lost an incredible amount of weight in a healthy way. Maybe you’ve kept a journal for a year that detailed your sleep habits and what sort of impact they had on your daily life. There are so many definitions of “health.”

However, just like you wouldn’t trust an aerobics instructor who was carrying around a hefty spare tire, your readers aren’t going to trust you if you don’t practice what you preach. If you’ve spend some serious time perfecting the best stretches for office workers, then that’s your specialty.

Just make sure you buff up your blog with research as well as personal stories, and offer up new ideas and insights on a regular basis.

Building your base

Whether you hope to monetize your blog or simply want to share your ideas with the world, it all starts with building followers. As a health blogger, this means showcasing your professionalism and why you qualify as a potential expert in your field.

Building trust is key to any relationship, including the blogger-reader one. What do you have to offer, have you proven yourself, and do you make a trustworthy partner?

If you want to welcome others on a journey with you, such as getting to a certain body fat percentage, that can be a great way to build a base. Maybe you’re not there yet, but taking part in the journey can be just as enticing as reflection after the victory so that others may follow in your path.

However, you still need to have some foundation (such as research completed, or the first 30 days under your belt with some results or setbacks to show for them and learn from).

Dominate your niche

You’re not likely to be the only blogger covering whatever you choose to do, but you can be the best and/or have a unique perspective. Perez Hilton made millions on little more than his personality alone.

Health can be a scary word for many people. Most of them certainly aren’t eager to be lectured at steadily. They want a blog that makes them feel welcome, entertained, and possibly part of a community (even if they’re just a lurker).

This means it’s up to you to design a site that’s welcoming and lets your personality shine through. Not everyone has what it takes to be a successful blogger. However, with the right approach, you can stack the odds in your favor and maybe attract a crowd.
