3 Kinds of Non-Traditional Health Care Blogs

January 8, 2014 by: 0

Health care is a major topic today. It’s also a booming industry: Health-care jobs are expected to be in demand for at least the next decade.

All this focus on health care is good news for anyone who runs a blog devoted to health-care issues. If you have strong writing ability, knowledge of the industry, and basic computer skills, creating a health-care blog might be a great idea.

But how do you make your blog stand out from the crowd? One method is to focus on non-traditional health-care topics. Here are three blog ideas related to health care that are also a bit out of the ordinary.

1. “Obamacare”

The Affordable Care Act is, to put it mildly, a bit controversial. But one thing all sides agree on is that the law is very complicated. It also affects pretty much everybody in the nation, one way or another.

Since that’s the case, people are going to be looking for information about the ACA. People will flock to your blog if you can provide clear, up-to-date information on “Obamacare.”

You can also take a strong position either for or against the legislation, but doing so may limit your readership in some respects.

2. Pet care

Dogs and cats are a part of many people’s families. Unfortunately, if they become ill or injured, it can be hard to diagnose what’s wrong, since they can’t tell you directly.

Pet owners can be understandably confused about which situations require veterinary attention. Your pet health blog can provide tips for preventive care, instructions for emergency treatment, nutrition information,
exercise techniques, and more.

There’s no need to limit your blog to just dogs and cats, as well: Plenty of people are interested in health information for all sorts of animals, including birds, reptiles, and fish.

3. Correctional health care

Across the U.S., there are about 2.3 million people in prison. And they need health care. Providing care to people in prison is a booming industry, and a blog about prison health care can offer a huge potential audience.

Your blog can be geared toward health-care professionals, corrections officials, or both. While medical care should certainly be a focus of your blog, don’t forget to cover prison dental care as well.

The health-care industry is gigantic, and continually growing. Unfortunately, many health-care blogs fall short because they attempt to cover too much of the topic.

By finding a smaller area of focus and sticking to it, you can carve out a niche for yourself in the blogosphere. Good blogging and good health await your efforts.
