Add Depth To Your Blog With a Touch of History

Blog-2

Blogging is a fantastic way to express your opinions, share your experiences, develop your creativity, and tell a story any way you want. However, when you have a blog post that just needs a touch of something to give it that kick of extra legitimacy, look to historical sources that give some background to add to your writing tool repertoire. Sourcing your information in this way, or simply giving examples based in the past, is a great way to improve the overall quality of your typical blog post.

The Man Behind the Design

If you’re posting about a general topic, like furniture, for example, have some links to the historical value of a furniture designer. Where did he or she come from? What are some of his or her designs? The better your links are to explain where you come up with your particular opinions, the greater the effect you’re going to have on your readers. It won’t matter how opinionated you are as long as you have the material to back you up. Give your readers a path to follow, and they will come back for more whenever you have new stuff up.

Historical Photos In Context

Especially since the power of image search engines is unbelievable these days, you can find any picture you want to go with your blog post. By adding historically accurate photos and images, once again, you are showing your readers that you care enough to do that work for them.  They don’t have to go searching for your subject matter, because you’ve done it for them. And, you’ve even combined the power of an image with the power of passing time. Hard to beat that for an entertaining equation!

Old Audio Is Great for Texture

If you can find actual audio excerpts of people talking about your topic, that can be a huge draw when presented correctly. There are audio archives out there that have excerpts from all different types of interviews, so if you know you blog material well enough, start looking for people in the past who have spoken effectively about it, and use these resources to your creative advantage.

With the right combination of multimedia expression, adding historical value to your blog posts can really give your readers a worthwhile experience. Make sure that your voice is clear in the mix, and don’t overdo the elements (you are not writing about a circus), but keep in mind that the more ways you have to connect a reader to the inside of your mind, the more they will appreciate what you are trying to communicate. Look for examples of multimedia history presentation in your favorite websites for a framework to emulate.
