Essential Tips for Real Estate Bloggers

May 7, 2014 by: 0

If you blog about real estate, you already have a leg up on the competition. Real estate is a constantly changing industry that cycles through seller’s markets, buyer’s markets, home loan variations, and buying trends in a perpetual state of evolution. bprealestate-sold

In other words, you probably won’t be running out of blogging material anytime soon. However, there’s also a lot of competition in the field and your blog needs to stand out from it.

As you know, there are many niches in the real estate field, and trying to tackle them all as a single blogger will set you up to fail. Capitalize on your strengths; for example, if you own a real estate franchise and want to help others learn how to get into this lucrative field, that’s what you should blog about.

Your target demographic will be other Realtors and professionals in the industry, so you can forget about blogging for home buyers. Once you narrow down the focus of your blog, it’s time to start getting technical.

Remember your blogging basics

A blog should be a way to inform or entertain your audience, not serve as a thinly veiled sales pitch. It’s perfectly fine (and a great idea) to have a blog be part of your business’s website, but it should have its own function.

This isn’t a platform to sell, whether property or your services, so write down the goals of your blog and review them before writing and posting. You don’t have to be a great writer to be a great blogger; you can rely on guest bloggers or pursue an image-drive approach.

Real estate agents are often decent photographers, so use this to your advantage if you can. Photos of incredible homes along with advice on how to buy dream homes, if that’s your niche, is a great approach.

Don’t assume that just because you’re “not a writer” that you can’t maintain a successful blog with quality content.

Know where you stand

If you’re blogging, the purpose is to be seen and read, and that means keeping up with search engine optimization (SEO). SEO is what search engines such as Google employ to rank your online presence, based on relevant keywords.

If someone is Googling “real estate Napa Valley,” your business will turn up somewhere in the search results. But SEO determines whether you appear on the first page of Google or the 20th. Brush up on SEO basics or, even better, have a pro do it.

For agents, time management is a crucial skill that will serve you well when you’re blogging. Have a goal to post at least three times per week, and plan accordingly.
